Traffic Violations

Out here on Long Island, many of us break the law every day while we are driving. We talk on our cell phones, change lanes without signaling, follow other cars too closely, exceed the speed limit, make turns when we shouldn’t, and run red lights. Usually we get away with it, but not always. When we do get a ticket for one of these moving violations, we usually accept it as due punishment for our actions, pay the fine, and go on our way. You should know, however, that having even one moving violation on your record can have consequences, and if you have more than one violation the consequences can be serious.

If you have received a traffic summons or speeding ticket in Nassau County or Suffolk County, depending on the severity of the offense, it could result in points being attached to your driving record.  (For an explanation of the New York State Driver Violation Point System, see https://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/license.htm#points.)  Depending on how many violations you have, and the type of violations they are, you could lose your driving privileges and be subject to increased insurance rates.  Once these violations have accumulated on your record, they remain there for years, a constant threat for even more damaging punishments should you receive another traffic violation before they clear.

The attorneys at the law firm of John N. Fath, P.C. have decades of experience in the traffic courts of Nassau County and Suffolk County. In many of the courts, we are able to make an appearance on your behalf and negotiate your traffic summons or speeding ticket without you having to be present. Because of our extensive experience with traffic violations, we can advise you what outcomes you can expect for a particular traffic violation in a particular court. We have a proven track record of getting the charges against our clients dismissed or reduced to a charge that has little or no impact on their driver’s license and insurance premiums.
